This is a cross post from Jacqueline on Facebook:
This morning, scrolling through Facebook, I saw a lot of post relating to “health and wellness,” and this really got me thinking.
I used to be of the mindset that it was an all or nothing thing. For example: I missed a day of Insanity Max 30, so I “made it up,” even though I talked about how that didn’t need to happen. If I had a “cheat meal,” I’d feel like I didn’t fully follow the meal plan and I needed to start over again. I would feel like I failed.
Can I please just tell you that this way of thinking is ridiculous, and you’ll end up failing EVERY DAMN TIME.
Life happens folks. Pizza on a Friday night happens. Being so sore you can hardly pick up your kiddo the second day after arm day happens. Does that mean you should deprive yourself of pizza and push through the pain?
Well, my answer to this might be different than your answer. I’m all about balance. I believe you should strive for balance in all aspects of your life. Who cares if you eat pizza one meal? Were you too sore to work out yesterday? Good, you listened to your body! You wanted a glass of wine to unwind? Drink it! But that also means you should be eating your veggies and drinking water and moving your body.
Health and wellness is not about “getting skinny” or “never missing a Monday.” It’s about balance, and learning healthy ways to take care of yourself.
You HAVE to make choices that you can live with–that you can repeat over and over again to make a lifestyle change, and you need to do it in a way YOU can live with. Not a way someone else tells you it has to be. And that might mean you try a few ways to do it. That’s okay. And it’s okay if those ways don’t work out. Find something that does. If that doesn’t work anymore, find a new way.
Surround yourself with people who are like minded and will help you succeed–supportive, positive people. I’m always here to help!!
And let me just tell you that I HATE the expression “Never miss a Monday.” I hate it so much, I set up my current lifting plan so Mondays are my day off. 😂
