With all of the travelling this summer, I thought I would talk about preparing food for a trip. With all of the restaurants out there, should you bother preparing food. I mean, it is extra work. My answer is a resounding yes. Why should you? Here are some reasons I think you should take the time to prepare food for a trip.
The first reason is to make sure you are not grabbing extras while you are travelling. How easy is it to stop by a gas station or an airport store and get a bag of chips. It’s easy when you don’t have a plan. When we drive somewhere, I make sure to have some plain popcorn on hand. We love it and it satisfies our craving for something crunchy. When you do this, remember to bring something you like. Don’t bring veggies if you don’t like to eat them raw.
Second, you may have to skip meals if you don’t bring something along. This happened to me when I was travelling to Minneapolis earlier this summer. The flights got so delayed that if I didn’t plan well, I would have been starving until noon. Luckily I packed some homemade protein bars. They are a bit soft, so I froze them to pass through TSA.
Third, your event may not have healthy things to eat. Many times for breakfast events think that pastries are a good thing. I wish events would serve something more healthy. Talking to people, they are over muffins and doughnuts. Because I plan, I always have my breakfast mix handy. I pack the powder in baggies and just add coconut milk. Then add fruit. Done, I can skip the bad breakfast.
Finally, if you are in weight loss phase, planning can make sure you stick to your eating schedule. For our next trip, I am making snacks and protein bars. Tony and I are both in weight loss right now and need to stay on track. Prepping food will help us with that.
Now, before I sign off, I want to address what you should do if you make a mistake. I would say nothing. Forgive yourself and get back on track tomorrow. It’s ok. I think it’s also ok if you have a special restaurant you want to you to for your favorite dish. Planning doesn’t mean you have to stop having fun.
